Happy New Year!

Published Sun 2nd January 2022 by willowmoonshadow

Welcome 2022 😀

50 Happy New Year 2022 Wishes

I’ve had a bit of a hiatus here – life has had its annoying habit of getting in the way and happening. I’ve moved, changed jobs, become an auntie to nieces, had major back problems, been to a couple of Dr Who conventions, completed both a half and a full marathon (admittedly, walking, but still lol), been to America twice, sadly lost Cornelius, gained a new kitty – Tabitha, had one of my sisters move in for 4 months, worked from home, so far avoided getting Covid 19….. I think that’s pretty much all the highlights lmao

This year I look forward (ish) to turning 40…. to be honest, I don’t feel almost 40.

I’m planning to try and be more creative this year – I’ve already completed a gorgeous jigsaw and I’ve planned a new blanket to be completed over the year plus there’s a couple of other smaller projects I aim to complete this year – let’s see what happens! 😀

Anyway, my hope is to resume posting here – I’ve only been posting my book lists the last few years. I’m not going to promise lots of posts – cos I know I’m pretty rubbish lmao however, I hope to be a little more active – so here goes 🙂

So Happy New Year – let’s hope 2022 is MUCH better than the last couple of years – Covid can well and truly do one now!

Update

In my last post, I wrote about my friend.

At this moment in time, he’s currently back home (thankfully)

At the hospital he was told he had urosepsis and that it was a VERY good job he came when he did……

If he had decided to wait any longer…..well I don’t think I can bring myself to even think about it.

He’s still not 100%……he’s very tired and struggles to eat and drink, but slowly, he DOES seem to be improving.

I went round after work last night to see him….. I’ve never seen him so ill before 😦

The whole incident has really shook up his partner and last night they both got me to help sort out  draft wills for them both…..

Life is so fleeting…… I can’t imagine if he hadn’t been treated in time……….

Oh what a night…..

I’m back….I think lol

The last couple of weeks have been a bit turmultuous….

* First I was ill…. despite dragging myself to work for most of the week, I eventually ended up having to take time off as I simply couldn’t even get out of bed… thankfully, after a couple of days doing very little besides sleeping, I was feeling a hell of a lot better.

* For the last 5-6 months, my very best and dear friend had been planning a surprise party for his partner’s mum and dad, who would be celebrating their 75th and 80th birthdays, respectively. all well and good I hear you say…. but….. this party was going to be EPIC. Firstly, it was to be held at his house…. secondly, all the chairs/tables/marquees etc were to be bought for as cheap as possible – ebay became a second home….and thirdly, the guest list was running up to approximately 150 people…… that’s right…. ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY PEOPLE……… in a 3 bedroom (admittedly, a BIG 3 bedroom) house, and 3, 3ft x 9ft marquees outside….. oh, and because they were to have the party at home, 90% of the house needed redecorating!!!

As you can imagine, after LOTS of planning etc, I was just ever so slightly fed up of the whole thing! As the party grew ever nearer, there was LOTS of long hours spent making decorations, collecting chairs/tables etc  – then, assembling the marquees, putting down flooring to stop the VERY muddy grass from ruining everyone’s shoes etc(in the couple of weeks running up to the party, it had basically rained non-stop) The day before the party saw me rigging up a “seal” to go where the marquees all joined which would prevent any rain water from dripping onto the guests below….. that night it rained and I remember falling asleep thinking “please hold….please hold” …..

Thankfully, there was only 3 repairs where the rain water had gathered and leaked – overall, the seals had held and providing there was no real heavy rain (or wind) all the guests would stay nice and dry. That morning was a mad scramble to decorate everywhere, lay out all the food, and generally do a quick clear round and make everything nice and presentable for the guests due to start arriving around 4.30pm. ……then disaster struck….

In order to get power to the top of the garden, where some lights and a nice gas heater were, we had to run an extension cable….. no problem….except the one we had spare needed a fuse replacing…..surely not a problem…easy peasy……. yeah….

I’m normally very good at changing fuses and most minor electrical things so I managed to change the fuse no problem…..then I plugged it into the mains….and managed to blow ALL the electric in the garage! This was about an HOUR before the party was due to start!! This meant that had NO light in the bar (which was in the garage)…..NO lights in the garden….NO lights in the tent….. can you see where this is going?

My friend tried everything…to no avail. In the end we had to run a cable from the kitchen, round to the garage, and then carefully plug the various things into it….. we had power again, but it was close. We was STILL doing things right up to the first guests arriving…….. thankfully, I managed to grab some time to get changed and look all pretty 😀

The party itself was a HUGE success and, although we never got round to doing an official head count, at one point early into the party, I counted about 80 people, and there was others who arrived later. In total, we reckoned that there was a good 100 people there that night. My friend’s partner’s mum and dad were overwhelmed – they had been led to believe they were going out for a nice quiet meal!!!

After the party came the clear up…… over a week after the party and we are STILL clearing stuff!!! Perhaps by this time next year, everything will be back to normal!!

A few days after the party, I was exhausted and falling into depression. Work was getting to me and I felt emotional and seriously not my usual happy self. I’ve had bouts of depression before, and I knew that I had managed to come out of the other side… as always, my friend was there as my rock and he helped me come back from the edge.

During this time I had very little interest to write, or do much of anything.

Thankfully, for now, the cloud has lifted and I am happy in myself once more. and so I am back writing here 🙂

And now I think I might have a cuppa, and quick skim of my emails and then think about heading to bed,

Night, and Blessed Be xx

2014… New year, new beginnings

Published Wed 1st January 2014 by willowmoonshadow

First of all…HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

To say it’s been a while is probably an understatement. I could make excuses, but to be honest, i just didn’t have the impetus to write anything. Basically, life was happening, and it never felt interesting enough to write about (it probably isn’t now, but I got itchy fingers and the desire to write again lol)

Sure, LOADS of stuff happened last year, I changed jobs, got a cat, got fish, got a lodger, lost a boyfriend, went on holiday to Italy, saw my God-mum get married, went to the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Convention, saw 50th Anniversary episode at cinema, saw Black Sabbath live and met David Tennant……

2014 is gonna be a year of DOING stuff….. I realised that there’s LOADS I want to do, I just don’t seem to get round to doing any of it. Well I don’t want to look back in years to come and think “if only”. So I’m gonna make a list of just some of things I want to do this year…..

  1.  Go to the theatre more – I LOVE theatre (heck, I have a BA in Theatre Design lol) and I live on the doorstep of London…I SHOULD be LIVING in the theatre!
  2. Go swimming – Swimming was about the only thing I ACTUALLY enjoyed when I was younger (sportswise) it’s also a good way to lose weight (which is always good)
  3. Knit Tom Baker’s scarf – I’m a HUGE Doctor Who nut (most people try NOT to get me talking  about it now lol) and I have always wanted a Tom Baker scarf – I think this year this will be my “big project”
  4. Travel – whether it’s getting a random train to York or a coach to Wales, or even go abroad, there are loads of places I want to go to, this year I plan to make a start.
  5. Read more – at the moment, the only time I read is on my breaks at work, I used to read several books a week!
  6. Go to Comic Con etc – After attending the Doctor Who 50th Convention, I discovered a whole new world of “geekdom” that I LOVED! Am seriously considering attending the LonCon 3/72nd World Science Fiction Convention this year in August.
  7. Paint more – I kinda took a break from painting, I started one project then lost the drive to finish it. I’d like to get back to painting again.
  8. Generally make stuff – all those little projects I’ve been putting off, I’d like to make a start at – I got a sewing machine 2 YEARS ago that hasn’t been out of it’s box!! That needs rectifying!
  9. See my nephew more (and the rest of my family) – Not living back in Sheffield means I miss a lot of my nephew. I plan to go see him more and try and get him and my sister to come here again. I also don’t get to see the rest of my family much and when I do, it’s usually kinda awkward as we’re all “doing our own things”.
  10. Try not to let my flatmate drive me nuts – this is a hard one. Don’t get me wrong, she’s nice, but she talks…and talks…and talks….and talks! usually about stuff that have NO interest in (ie/ people at her work etc) – I have to keep reminding myself she pays her rent on time and that helps my mortgage…. however, I have woods nearby (and a lake) if I ever need to dispose of a body 😉
  11. Manage my money better – I’m not very good at saving, usually I discover some random Doctor Who thing lol. However, this year I want to save and DO things, managing my money will make this MUCH easier to do.
  12. Be more assertive and outgoing –  The last year I’ve become more and more of a hermit and I don’t seem to go out and DO stuff, when I have time off work (weekends etc) I tend to be sat watching TV or surfing the web. I plan to TRY and socialise a bit more. This could be the trickiest one of all lol.

I’m sure there are probably lots of other things I want to achieve this year but if I manage to do even SOME of those, I’ll be happy. It all takes baby steps, but positive thinking is always a good place to start.

2014 will only be as good as I make it. If nothing else, I know I have some great friends and family, a decent job, food , and a roof over my head, for this, I am truly grateful.

Happy New Year xx

*edit* I decided to re-read my old posts (like you do) and I realised that since posting last I’ve actually changed jobs twice! (I left the night job of making pasta after nearly a year and a half to work for 9 months in a chocolate factory packaging sweets and chocolates and biscuits into various decorative tins and boxes – this was day work. I then left there for my current job as a Community caretaker for a private housing association) I also bought my own place! I have just celebrated my 2nd year as a homeowner! I THINK that’s about it for “life changing events” lol
